Chapter 4 The Sky-High Cabbage

It was now time to harvest the cabbage seeds!

Cheng Xiaofan spread the ten sacks he had brought on the ground. With a single thought, he commanded, "Receive!"

The dark red seeds detached from their husks and flowed into the sacks. In a blink of an eye, all ten sacks were filled with black seeds.

Cheng Xiaofan's mind moved again, and the old cabbage stalks in the field turned to powder, integrating into the soil to become new fertilizer.

The entire process appeared so miraculous!

After the harvest, the land was barren and spacious.

This time, Cheng Xiaofan had only tried a small area, scattering a little radish seed.

After all, he had just harvested a batch of cabbage seeds. According to the information in his mind, the space sometimes needed a buffer period.

Just then, Cheng Xiaofan suddenly noticed a long bronze box beside the Shennong Tablet, emitting an ethereal glow.

He was stunned. "When did this thing appear here? I didn't see it yesterday when I came in?"

"Could it be like those system novels where the space gives me an unexpected prize every time I accomplish something?"

Without further thought, Cheng Xiaofan walked over and opened the bronze box.

Inside the bronze box lay a Guqin.

The body of the zither was made of paulownia wood, dark yellow in color. It was three feet six inches and six fen long, with five-colored silk strings, tuned to the five notes: Gong, Shang, Jue, Zhi, Yu.

As Cheng Xiaofan's hand touched the body of the zither, three words flashed in his mind: Shennong Qin.

Simultaneously, he acquired several musical scores.

It turned out this Shennong Qin was personally crafted by Shennong. Besides entertainment, it could also be used to summon rain and subdue evil spirits.

For instance, if rain was needed, playing the score "Yu Lin Ling" would immediately bring rain from the heavens. This was truly a treasure rewarded to him by the Shennong space.

As he received this information, Cheng Xiaofan was so excited that he began to doubt if he had been dreaming since he fell from the back mountain.

Cheng Xiaofan had been a music enthusiast since high school. As the musical scores appeared one by one in his mind, he quickly memorized them.

After leaving the space, Cheng Xiaofan spent the rest of the afternoon leveling the land on the sunny slope into rows and scattering cabbage seeds.

The soil was a bit dry. For the seeds to root and sprout better, moisture was essential.

Thinking of the Shennong Qin he had acquired, which could summon rain, Cheng Xiaofan immediately took the ancient zither out of the space.

By this time, it was completely dark.

Cheng Xiaofan sat cross-legged under a pine tree, placing the Shennong Qin on his lap. With a gentle pluck of his fingers, a clear and beautiful "Yu Lin Ling" immediately flowed from his fingertips.

The sound, like water from a mountain stream, gurgled from the strings. Faint arcs of electricity flickered along the strings, even accompanied by thunder.

Wisps of spiritual energy from heaven and earth converged above Cheng Xiaofan's head, condensing into a dark cloud.

In a blink of an eye, a soft drizzle, a spiritual rain, fell gracefully in the area Cheng Xiaofan had designated.

It was all so magical!

Woof woof!

Tao Qibao tilted his head, looking curiously at the sky. The sky was filled with brilliant stars, yet only this one patch above his master's music had condensed into a dark cloud, from which a spiritual rain was falling.

Especially the scent emanating from the spiritual rain deeply attracted Tao Qibao.

Tao Qibao found his master increasingly mysterious!

On the ground where the spiritual rain fell, the seeds quickly sprouted, pushing up tiny green leaves.

When Cheng Xiaofan withdrew his fingers from the Shennong Qin, the dark cloud above his head vanished instantly, and the starlight streamed through the gaps in the treetops.

A gentle breeze brushed his face, carrying the intoxicating aroma of the spiritual rain.

After just one night, Cheng Xiaofan returned to the back mountain and found that the cabbages had grown half a foot tall.

These large cabbages were locally known as "Si Ji Qing," meaning they could be planted all year round. They usually grew to be slightly over a foot tall, and a well-formed cabbage would weigh more than a pound.

When sowing, the seeds had to be scattered sparsely. Otherwise, if they were too crowded, the cabbages would not be able to expand properly during growth.

Cheng Xiaofan squatted at the edge of the field, picked a leaf, and chewed it. The fresh, delicious taste was not only comparable to the vegetables in his own backyard but even several notches better.

After all, these were vegetable seeds cultivated from the Shennong space!

Looking at the lush green cabbage in front of him, Cheng Xiaofan's eyes sparkled with excitement. At this rate, the cabbages could be taken to market the next day.

That afternoon, Cheng Xiaofan announced to his parents that the newly planted cabbages in the plot his father had tilled on the back mountain were ready for sale.

"When did you plant cabbages in that plot?" Cheng Fugui asked curiously.

Cheng Xiaofan smiled and said, "I sowed them the afternoon before yesterday. I wasn't sure how well they would grow, so I didn't tell you!"

His words completely overturned Cheng Fugui and Miao Xiuhua's perception of the land. Cabbages sown the afternoon before yesterday could be sold tomorrow?

Was he dreaming?

...

Before dawn, the three members of Cheng Xiaofan's family were busy in the field under the starlit sky.

Cheng Fugui and Miao Xiuhua were responsible for cutting the cabbages, while Cheng Xiaofan packed the fallen cabbages into baskets, carried them on his shoulders, and transported them to the three-wheeled vehicle at the foot of the mountain.

This three-wheeled vehicle was rented from town by Cheng Xiaofan the previous night. Although it didn't look large, it could carry over a thousand jin of cabbage at once.

After being modified by the Shennong Pearl, Cheng Xiaofan's body was exceptionally strong, both in physique and stamina. Carrying two to three hundred jin on his shoulders felt like child's play.

Just as the sky began to brighten, Cheng Xiaofan ate a simple breakfast at home. Under his parents' watchful eyes, he set off with a vehicle full of cabbage.

Just past eight in the morning, Cheng Xiaofan arrived at the entrance of Wangjiang City's largest vegetable market, driving his motor tricycle.

Because he arrived a bit late, the good spots were already taken.

Good wine needs no bush. Cheng Xiaofan found a random spot. As soon as he parked the tricycle, several vegetable vendors were drawn by the appearance of the large cabbages on the vehicle.

"Young man, are these cabbages priced by the jin?" one of them asked.

Cheng Xiaofan smiled and said, "My cabbages are very cheap, a blood-loss price, twenty yuan a jin!"

"What? Twenty yuan a jin? You crazy kid, are you desperate for money?"

"Regular cabbages sell for a maximum of three yuan a jin, and you're selling them for twenty! Young man, why don't you go rob someone on the street?"

"Pah! I've met a lunatic this early in the morning!"

The vegetable vendors turned and left.

Cheng Xiaofan paid no mind to the looks he received. Unlike other vendors, he took out a liquefied gas tank, stove, and other cooking utensils from the side of the rear seat.

Before long, Cheng Xiaofan had set up the stove and other equipment, placed the pot, and with a "snap," lit the fire. He then poured some rapeseed oil into the pot.

With a sizzle, a handful of pre-sliced cabbage was thrown into the pot, and a fresh aroma, reminiscent of the countryside, immediately wafted out.

"So fragrant!"

Someone exclaimed in admiration and looked towards Cheng Xiaofan.

A red Bentley happened to drive past. The driver was a beautiful woman in her twenties, with her hair elegantly tied up, wearing a high-end white sportswear that exuded a noble aura.

Beside her sat a frail, white-haired old man in a Tang suit. At this moment, he couldn't help but sniffle several times through the gap in the car window and blurted out, "So fragrant!"

"Ah, Grandpa, what do you smell?" the beautiful woman asked. Her eyes sparkled with a strange light.

"The aroma of vegetables, a scent of cabbage that is rarely found in this world!"

Liu Tingshu narrowed his eyes and said, "This aroma is coming from nearby. Xinyue, pull over quickly and help Grandpa out. Grandpa is hungry!"
