Chapter 26 He Was Injured for Another Woman

Wen Yan couldn't attend to anything else and first went to her brother's ward.

Her mother was already there, chatting with the doctor in the ward.

Her brother lay in bed, his face pale, with only the heart monitor beside him proving he was still alive.

"We are doing our best to find a suitable heart. However, the patient's condition has suddenly worsened, so we managed to save him just now. Next time, it might not be so certain."

Wen Yan's mother had been crying.

The doctor offered a few words of comfort, nodded at Wen Yan, and left the ward.

Wen Yan knew how difficult it was to find a suitable heart. She stepped forward and hugged her mother, who sobbed into her arms.

"Why is my Ziyu so unfortunate! He's spent his life in hospitals since birth, and now he can't even hold on through these difficult times. As long as Ziyu can live, I'd do anything, even be a beast of burden!" Her mother cried incessantly.

Wen Yan felt a pang in her heart as well.

"Mom, our brother is still here. We need to be cheerful, we can't let him be sad too, can we?"

After a period of comforting, Wen Yan's mother finally calmed down.

The two stayed by Wen Ziyu's bedside for a long time.

Wen Yan's mother: "You go to work, I'll stay here for a while."

"Okay. Contact me if anything comes up."

Wen Yan was indeed approaching her work hours.

But as she walked out of the ward, Wen Yan's mind drifted back to the person on the hospital bed.

Wen Yan didn't believe she had seen wrong.

But if it was Leng Xunze, why was he injured? And it seemed serious.

She remembered the elevator was going up.

The building of Ruohai Hospital wasn't very tall.

On the fifth floor, Wen Yan saw several people standing by a ward door.

"Alright, what's the use of crying?"

"It's all my fault. If I had been more careful, he wouldn't have gotten hurt."

The woman speaking had a beautiful, slender figure.

Wen Yan recognized her at a glance from the photo.

This meant Leng Xunze was injured because of her?

Was the person lying in the hospital bed earlier really Leng Xunze?

Wen Yan's mind was in a mess. The next second, she walked towards the ward and pushed the door open. The man saw Wen Yan and tried to stop her, but was held back by someone else:

"Who is this..."

Entering the ward, Wen Yan saw the man lying on the bed. He was bandaged, his head too, with only his handsome face exposed, sharp and pale.

"Leng Xunze?"

Wen Yan whispered his name.

The man didn't respond.

She tightly clutched the corner of the blanket.

"Are you a family member of the patient?"

A male voice came from behind her.

Wen Yan turned and saw a doctor approaching.

"Yes. What happened to him?" Wen Yan asked urgently.

"The patient has multiple injuries, to his chest, right hand, and forehead. The wounds are quite deep but not life-threatening, and there's no danger to his life. The doctor continued, "His wounds need dressing twice a day. It has already been done once today. If you are a family member, you will need to ensure timely dressing in the future to prevent infection."

"Okay, I understand."

The doctor gave some more instructions, and Wen Yan noted them all down.

Seeing Leng Xunze so seriously injured, Wen Yan had no choice but to ask for leave from work.

In the afternoon, it was time for the dressing change. Wen Yan carefully opened the bandages, revealing a bloody mess that was striking. Her heart ached. What could have happened to him to cause such severe injuries?

Was it because of that woman?

He was injured for another woman, and she was here taking care of him.

Wen Yan felt a mix of sadness and complexity, but at that moment, she could only suppress it deeply, disinfect with an alcohol swab, and begin applying medication.

"Hiss..." The man winced in pain.

Wen Yan instinctively looked over. Leng Xunze slowly opened his deep eyes.

Their eyes met, and a flicker of surprise crossed his face.

"What are you doing here?"

He certainly didn't want her to know about this, did he?

"I came to see my brother, and I happened to find you injured," Wen Yan replied in a flat tone.

Leng Xunze's gaze fell on his exposed chest. His dark eyes fixed on her, and Wen Yan's face immediately flushed. She quickly explained, "You're injured and need dressing. I'm changing your dressing!"

"Thank you."

Wen Yan continued applying the medication.

The wound looked terrifying, and Wen Yan felt the pain as she applied the medicine, yet the man remained silent.

Next, she began to treat the wound on his forehead.

The man remained silent, but Wen Yan felt a deep ache in her heart. Was he worth it for that woman?

He must be worth it.

Otherwise, why would he be so badly injured?

She was angry at his actions, yet heartbroken by his severe injuries. These two conflicting emotions almost drove Wen Yan mad.

"Wen Yan," the man suddenly spoke, his voice muffled.

Wen Yan realized she had applied too much pressure and quickly eased up, bandaging him.

A fine sweat beaded on Leng Xunze's forehead. "What time is it?"

"It's already six in the evening."

"Let's go, we're going home," Leng Xunze tried to get out of bed, but Wen Yan grabbed his wrist and said sternly, "Are you crazy? You're severely injured, and the doctor said you need to be hospitalized for observation."

"It's all superficial wounds."

"Superficial wounds aren't wounds?" Wen Yan couldn't help but mutter, "If you knew this would happen, why did you do it in the first place? Was playing the hero saving the damsel fun?"

Leng Xunze didn't quite catch the latter half of her sentence. "What?"

"Nothing. You'll be hospitalized today. It's too late to go back, and it's inconvenient. You must be hungry, I'll order takeout for you." Wen Yan said, sounding a little annoyed.

Leng Xunze nodded.

He watched the girl's cheeks puff out slightly, looking a little angry.

Was she angry that he was injured?

A warmth inexplicably spread through his heart. He took her soft, boneless hand. "Don't worry, I'm fine."

"Hmph!"

Wen Yan ordered a light dinner. He needed to be careful with his diet due to his injuries.

"Eat!" She placed his portion directly on the bedside table.

Leng Xunze kept watching Wen Yan.

Her angry expression was inexplicably cute.

"How can I eat like this?" Leng Xunze pointed to his injured arm.

Wen Yan remembered and frowned, reluctantly beginning to feed him.

"You eat too!" Leng Xunze said, noticing her stomach rumbling.

"You eat yours."

Wen Yan fed him another mouthful of noodles.

Leng Xunze leaned back against the headboard, his white shirt loosely buttoned, revealing his healthy, tanned chest. The bandages only added to his rugged aura.

He stared intently at Wen Yan as he ate.

Wen Yan became a little embarrassed by his gaze.

"Eat quickly!" She fed him more and more.

Leng Xunze almost choked.

"Water!" he mumbled.

Wen Yan quickly handed him some noodle soup, almost spilling it on him. She then grabbed a tissue to wipe his mouth. Finally, she saw Leng Xunze looking at her with a hint of resentment.

She felt a little awkward.

But then she quickly remembered that she was already doing him a favor by taking care of him when he was injured for someone else, and her confidence returned.

"Do you want to choke me to inherit my fortune?" Leng Xunze stared at the girl with a hint of melancholy.

Wen Yan almost laughed. "Do you have any inheritance? Didn't you give all your money away?"

"What if I have some private savings?"

"You?" It wasn't that Wen Yan looked down on him, but if he truly had money, why would he be with that rich lady?

This look of disdain made Leng Xunze a little uncomfortable. "What, I'm not capable?"
