Chapter 148 Injured

She actually felt that after so many years together, there should be some feelings.

However, she was really unsure about Rong Beifeng.

Bai Quan’s eyes were downcast, her chest feeling a bit constricted. “Yeah, I feel really tired.”

Seeing how haggard Bai Quan looked, Wen Yan felt her heart ache. “Bai Quan, why don’t you just have a frank talk with Rong Beifeng…”

Before she could finish, Bai Quan’s phone suddenly rang.

When Bai Quan saw who was calling, she answered in a calm tone.

She didn’t know what the other person said, but Wen Yan saw Bai Quan’s complexion turn very grim. After Bai Quan hung up, she quickly asked, “Bai Quan, why does your face look even worse after that call?”

Bai Quan sighed. “He said he has something to tell me and is already coming to find me. He probably figured things out.”

Wen Yan heard this and asked with concern, “Bai Quan, what are you thinking?”

Bai Quan drank a glass of water and put down the cup. “Right now, I just want to end this unworthy marriage.”

Wen Yan saw that the usually lively and cheerful person had become dim and lusterless, and she realized how important marriage was to a woman.

She continued, “Bai Quan, if you two divorce, have you thought about the children?”

“Given Rong Beifeng’s personality, he’ll definitely want the children. We’ll talk about it then. Although I’ll miss them dearly, let’s go.” Bai Quan stood up, her heart filled with mixed emotions.

Wen Yan comforted her, “Quan Quan, after leaving Rong Beifeng, you’re so smart and capable, you’ll surely find someone better.”

Bai Quan’s lips curved upwards, suppressing her sadness. “That’s right. I’ll go back to the company and wait for him. Yan Yan, thank you for keeping me company.”

Wen Yan glanced at her. “What are you saying? You’re my best friend.”

Bai Quan suddenly smiled. “Okay, I know you’re good to me, Yan Yan. Let’s go.”

“Mm.”

The two paid their bill and left the hall.

Wen Yan hailed a taxi by the roadside and turned to Bai Quan. “Quan Quan, call me if anything happens.”

Bai Quan hummed and turned around.

Just then, a man wearing a mask quickly approached Wen Yan, his eyes flashing with malice. The gleaming dagger in his hand was somewhat dazzling under the sunlight.

This damned woman. If it weren’t for the reward he’d get for doing this quickly, he wouldn’t want to act in broad daylight.

The risk was too great.

Bai Quan suddenly remembered something and turned back to tell Wen Yan, when she saw the man not far away flash the dagger in his hand and lunge towards Wen Yan.

Her eyes narrowed, and she shouted, “Yan Yan, dodge quickly!”

As she spoke, she reached out to pull Wen Yan’s sleeve.

Wen Yan turned her head, not yet reacting, when she heard a “thud.” Bai Quan had stepped in front of her. A dagger was plunged into her abdomen, and blood flowed from the wound onto the ground.

Wen Quan stumbled backward.

In front of Bai Quan stood a man. The mask obscured his face, making it impossible for her to see him clearly.

Wen Yan caught Bai Quan, looked at the man, and cried out urgently, “Bai Quan—Help!”

Seeing this, the man turned and ran.

Damn it, he didn’t succeed again.

The pedestrians on the street saw this scene. A few men quickly stepped forward and took out their phones to make calls.

Wen Yan held Bai Quan, her face turning pale. “Bai Quan, hold on! Why did you block that knife for me?”

Bai Quan’s face was devoid of color, blood still trickling from her lips. She looked at Wen Yan and said weakly, “You are my best… best friend…”

Wen Yan cried, “Don’t say that, Bai Quan! Hold on, the ambulance will be here soon.”

“Yan Yan, I’m so tired.” Bai Quan’s lips curved slightly, and her eyes closed.

Wen Yan cried out in despair, “Bai Quan, don’t sleep!”

Half an hour later.

Wen Yan sat on a bench outside the emergency room, her heart filled with anxiety.

Bai Quan, you can’t be gone!

Just then, her phone rang.

Wen Yan answered without looking at the caller ID, wiping tears from her face. “Hello?”

On the other end, Rong Beifeng’s displeased voice came through. “Wen Yan, do you know where Bai Quan is? She told me to wait for her at the company, and she hasn’t shown up for half an hour.”

“Bai Quan is in the hospital, undergoing emergency treatment.” Wen Yan felt there was nothing to hide from Rong Beifeng, as he was still Bai Quan’s husband.

Rong Beifeng’s face changed drastically. He turned and walked towards the door, asking urgently, “What happened to her? Why is she in the hospital?”

Wen Yan cried, “Bai Quan took a knife for me.”

Upon hearing this, Rong Beifeng’s heart trembled. “Tell me which hospital!”

Wen Yan gave him the address, and Rong Beifeng quickly drove there.

Thinking about his past with Bai Quan, his heart felt as if it had been fiercely squeezed, causing intense pain.

Wen Yan looked up at the still-flashing red light, her heart pounding in her chest.

Bai Quan, you can’t be gone.

Whoever was responsible for today’s incident, she would not let them get away with it.

If Bai Quan hadn’t stepped in to shield her at the critical moment, she would likely be the one lying in the emergency room now.

As she was thinking, she heard hurried footsteps approaching.

Wen Yan turned and saw Rong Beifeng striding towards her. “Bai Quan isn’t out yet.”

Rong Beifeng glanced at the emergency room, then his gaze fell on Wen Yan. “What exactly happened?”

Wen Yan recounted their encounter with the man in black.

Rong Beifeng’s expression turned grim. He pulled out his phone and made a call. “Go and check the surveillance footage from that street corner. Find the person with the dagger.”

He hung up the phone, and Wen Yan stared intently at the door.

Not long after, the red light above the emergency room door extinguished.

The door opened, and a young doctor in a white coat walked out. He looked at Wen Yan. “Who is the family member of the patient inside?”

Wen Yan stood up, and Rong Beifeng quickly stepped forward. “What happened to my wife?”

The young doctor looked at Rong Beifeng. “The patient was stabbed in the abdomen and has lost a lot of blood. Although her life has been saved, she is very weak and still unconscious. You need to donate blood.”

Rong Beifeng responded, “Wen Yan, I’ll go donate blood. You stay here and keep an eye on Bai Quan.”

“Mm.”

Wen Yan looked at the young doctor and asked, “When will my friend wake up?”

The young doctor glanced at her. “It’s uncertain right now. The main issue is the significant blood loss. Fortunately, you brought her here in time.”

“Thank you, Doctor.”

The young doctor waved his hand. “It’s nothing. It’s my duty. Transfer her to a ward, and let me know if there are any changes.”

Wen Yan thanked him. “Thank you.”

A few minutes later.

Wen Yan saw Bai Quan lying in the hospital bed, her face pale, with an IV bag attached.

She felt a pang of sorrow.

Bai Quan, you can’t be gone.

She and Bai Quan had been very close since childhood. After this incident, she felt she owed Bai Quan so much.

Suddenly, there was a knock on the ward door.

Wen Yan turned and saw Rong Beifeng walk in. Then, his phone rang.

She thought for a moment and said, “Bai Quan was injured saving me. I’ll take care of Bai Quan for the next few days until she wakes up. You can go about your business if you’re busy.”

Rong Beifeng looked at her. “I’m not busy lately.”
