Chapter 217 Heartache

Upon hearing this, Li Qiuyun recalled the scene of Leng Xunze helping her sell flowers at the shop that day, which had deeply touched her.

Although she knew Leng Xunze was trying to please her and would likely be insincere, he hadn't been.

Seeing her mother remain silent, Wen Yan asked again, "Mom, what do you think?"

Li Qiuyun took a deep breath and looked at her daughter. "Forget it. My only intention was to ensure you had a good marriage. Since you've made up your mind about him, what's the point of my continued disapproval?"

She had wanted to hold her ground.

But she wanted even less for this matter to turn her and her daughter into enemies.

As it stood, Leng Xunze clearly cared for her daughter.

Hearing this, Wen Yan excitedly exclaimed, "Mom, does that mean you no longer object to me being with Leng Xunze?"

"He seems to be a different sort of person than your father," Li Qiuyun said, a flicker of hatred rising in her eyes as she mentioned him.

Similarly, she hated her best friend even more.

If not for her, her marriage wouldn't have been shattered.

Wen Yan noticed Li Qiuyun's unhappy expression and keenly sensed it might be about her father again.

She quickly changed the subject. "Mom, I trust Leng Xunze."

Li Qiuyun nodded and said no more.

Just as she was about to leave, a familiar male voice called from outside, "Qiuyun, I didn't expect you to open a flower shop."

Li Qiuyun's face changed drastically. She hurried out from behind the counter, and upon seeing the man outside, she gritted her teeth and asked, "Why are you here?"

Seeing this man instantly reminded her of the time they were kicked out.

Wen Shihao appeared slightly awkward seeing the hatred in Li Qiuyun's eyes. "Qiuyun, you..."

Before he could finish, Li Qiuyun glared at him and roared, "Get out! You heartlessly kicked me and my daughter out back then, so don't come here pretending to offer comfort!"

Wen Yan stepped forward, her tone indifferent. "The person you should be concerned about isn't here."

Wen Shihao's expression shifted, and he then looked at Wen Yan. "Yanyan, Dad knows he was a bit much back then, but so many years have passed. Do you still hate Dad?"

With Wen Yan now with Leng Xunze, for the Wen Corporation to ascend to the ranks of top-tier wealthy families, mending ties with Wen Yan was essential.

Wen Yan couldn't believe how shamelessly Wen Shihao asked that question. She replied calmly, "Perhaps I hated you before, but not anymore."

"I only hope you won't disturb my mother again."

Wen Shihao felt his face lose all dignity after being lectured by Wen Yan. Before he could say anything else, Li Qiuyun grabbed a broom from the side. "Are you leaving or not? Are you leaving!"

Seeing Li Qiuyun brandishing the broom as if ready to strike him, Wen Shihao, for the sake of his pride, said, "Qiuyun, don't be rash. I'll leave now. I'll come back when you've calmed down."

As he spoke, he turned and left the flower shop, leaving behind the words, "Yanyan, try to persuade your mother."

Wen Yan watched Wen Shihao leave and quickly comforted Li Qiuyun. "Mom, don't be upset."

Li Qiuyun's heart ached. She dropped the broom and, without looking at Wen Yan, turned back into the lobby. "Yanyan, you should go back. Mom isn't feeling well."

Wen Yan looked at Li Qiuyun's retreating back, worried she might get too upset. "Then, perhaps I can accompany you for a walk?"

Li Qiuyun didn't turn around, her eyes slightly teary. "No need, I'm fine. Please close the door on your way out. We're closed for business today."

She had no mood to sell flowers now.

Wen Yan initially wanted to step forward and offer some comfort, but then she remembered something. She stopped for a few seconds before turning and walking out of the flower shop.

She closed the door and hung up the "Closed for Vacation" sign. After finishing these tasks, she walked towards the road on the side.

Some pains couldn't be healed by what others said.

One had to heal oneself.

Lost in her thoughts, she didn't notice the car speeding towards her. Then, the sound of an emergency brake pierced her ears.

Wen Yan looked up, but it was too late to dodge. She was knocked directly to the ground, her knees scraped and bleeding.

Her face turned pale from the pain. At this moment, the person from the car rushed out and looked at Wen Yan, asking, "Young lady, are you alright? Do you need to go to the hospital?"

Wen Yan pushed herself up with her hands. Apart from the pain in her knees, she didn't feel any other discomfort.

She waved her hand. "I'm fine, you can go."

It was just a minor scrape; she didn't feel the need to extort anyone over it.

Hearing this, the car owner quickly thanked her and handed her a business card. "Young lady, if you feel any discomfort, you can call me."

Wen Yan nodded, hailed a taxi, and gave the address. She looked down at her knee.

She'd put on a band-aid when she got back.

Half an hour later.

Wen Yan arrived at the villa complex and hobbled inside after getting out of the car.

As she neared the entrance, Leng Xunze called out to her from behind, "Yanyan, what's wrong?"

Wen Yan stopped and turned to see Leng Xunze walking towards her, a look of concern on his face.

She smiled. "It's nothing."

Leng Xunze reached her and immediately noticed the wound on her left leg. He frowned and asked, "How did you do that?"

Her legs were long and fair, and even a small injury was very noticeable.

As he spoke, Leng Xunze scooped Wen Yan into his arms, his heart aching.

Wen Yan's face flushed as she was lifted. She placed her hands on his chest. "Honey, I just tripped and fell. A band-aid will fix it when we get back. Please put me down."

Leng Xunze didn't let go, his voice clear. "It pains me. Why didn't you call me when something happened?"

He had actually finished his work long ago and had been waiting for Wen Yan's call. Later, he went to the flower shop, saw it was closed, and then returned.

He hadn't expected to see her limping. His heart had ached immensely at that sight.

"I was in a bad mood at the time. After I fell, I just took a taxi home myself." She hadn't even thought about calling him then.

Leng Xunze opened the door, carried her upstairs, and placed her on the bed. He then turned to find medicine.

Wen Yan watched him rummaging through drawers, asking with confusion, "Honey, what are you looking for?"

As she spoke, Leng Xunze found band-aids and disinfectant wipes from a drawer and walked to the bed. He knelt down and carefully disinfected the wound with the wipes.

The alcohol stung, and Wen Yan cried out, "It hurts."

Leng Xunze's heart felt as if it were being gently brushed by feathers. He softened his movements, looked up at her, and said, "Bear with it. If it's not disinfected, it will get infected. Next time, call me immediately if something happens, and you won't get hurt."

Wen Yan's face flushed, and she looked at him with a smile. "Okay."

A man who dotes on you must love you.

Just now, she had seen the concern in Leng Xunze's eyes.

"You lie down and rest. I'll go make dinner. Tell me what you want to eat," Leng Xunze said after applying the band-aid.
