Chapter 77 Falling Out

As soon as she arrived at the company, Wen Yan got busy and completely forgot about the matter.

At noon, Wen Yan finished her work and went to the cafeteria for lunch, where she happened to run into Mr. Ye.

The man stood tall and straight, his posture strong and upright. Beside him was a woman in a pink long dress, wearing a mask and hat, her face obscured. However, her figure was excellent.

Wen Yan was surprised; it was rare to see Mr. Ye with a woman.

She greeted him, "Good afternoon, Mr. Ye."

The man's cold, narrow eyes merely swept over her, as if she were invisible. Wen Yan felt a pang of awkwardness. Had she interrupted his date?

Unexpectedly, the woman beside him removed her mask and looked at Wen Yan, her voice tinged with a hint of joy, "Wen Yan."

Recognizing the woman's face, a flicker of shock crossed Wen Yan's eyes, which then turned to coldness.

"Wen Ya," she said emotionlessly.

"It really is you!" Wen Ya took Wen Yan's hand. "It's been so long, are you doing well?"

"I'm doing very well," Wen Yan replied, her voice a little distant as she lowered her gaze.

"I've tried to contact you several times, inviting you home for dinner, but you rarely reply, sister." Wen Ya sounded a little wronged.

Wen Yan fell silent.

She couldn't quite comprehend Wen Ya's attitude.

Whether it was an act or genuine, she couldn't understand it.

It was Wen Ya's mother who had interfered between Wen Yan's mother and father, causing their separation. Soon after, Wen Yan's father remarried. Unlike her mother's marriage, this new union caused a sensation in Hai City, making everyone believe it was Wen Yan's father's first marriage. She, her younger brother, and their mother were like unwanted additions!

"I know you must blame my mother, but Mom and Dad truly loved each other. There are many things you don't know, sister, but Dad has always hoped you would come back," Wen Ya said earnestly.

Wen Yan was not good at pretense. "Since I chose to leave with my mother, I will not go back."

"Sister..." Wen Ya's expression became dejected.

She glanced at Mr. Ye and said, "Mr. Ye is coming to our house for dinner this week. Why don't you come with Mr. Ye? That way, your mother won't say anything."

Mr. Ye was going to the Wen family for dinner? Wen Yan was indeed a little surprised.

"You go ahead, I'm very busy lately," Wen Yan refused.

"Sister..." Wen Ya's wronged expression was stopped by Mr. Ye. "If you don't want to, then forget it. Let's go."

Wen Ya had no choice but to give up and left with Mr. Ye, not forgetting to look back at Wen Yan.

Because of the encounter with Wen Ya, Wen Yan's mood was not good for the entire afternoon. She left work on time that evening and went home to cook. After two hours of busyness, the clock struck nine. The food was ready, but Leng Xunze had not returned.

Wen Yan waited.

It wasn't until past ten that the door was pushed open.

"Honey, you're finally back. Did you get off work this late today?" Wen Yan said softly.

Leng Xunze's white t-shirt was damp with sweat, clinging to his body, revealing tantalizing muscle lines. He glanced at Wen Yan, his expression indifferent. "You've been waiting for me?"

"Yes, I was too busy the past few days. Today, I finally had time to cook for you. I've also prepared your lunch for tomorrow," Wen Yan said sweetly, her bright eyes looking at him like a kitten seeking praise. Leng Xunze's gaze, however, held a hint of cold mockery.

"What have you made?" he asked, his face unreadable.

"Look, your favorite ribs, and braised pig trotters. These braised trotters are quite difficult to make. And there's seaweed soup. I'll serve you!" Wen Yan busied herself, picking up a bowl to serve him rice.

Ribs and pig trotters were placed on top of the rice, exuding a fragrant aroma.

Combined with the girl's soft, bright eyes, such a warm atmosphere was perhaps what every man dreamed of.

Leng Xunze's eyes darkened.

It wasn't that his self-control was lacking, but faced with such a scene, any man would be moved, wouldn't he?

But unfortunately, he had seen through her true colors in advance.

He took the bowl, and his hand trembled.

All the food fell into the trash can.

Wen Yan was slightly stunned.

She looked at him, unable to comprehend.

"What's wrong?" Wen Yan murmured. "Don't you like eating these?"

"It's not that I don't like these, it's just..." the man began, his voice deep and cold. "I can't stand you."

Wen Yan looked at his icy expression, which felt like a heavy blow to her heart.

A sharp pain instantly surged through her.

A wave of grievance washed over her, but Wen Yan still guessed what was happening. "Honey, is it because I didn't come home last night? I'm sorry, I hadn't seen my friends in a long time, so we chatted a bit longer. I promise I won't do it again."

Saying this, she went to hug Leng Xunze.

He was enveloped in her soft, fragrant embrace, and Leng Xunze instinctively wanted to hold her, but he still controlled himself and pushed her away.

"Then how can you prove it?" Leng Xunze's dark eyes fixed on her, his tone laced with sarcasm.

"Should I call you?"

Leng Xunze looked at her, and Wen Yan had no choice but to take out her phone and call Bai Quan.

The call was answered quickly. Wen Yan braced herself and said, "Bai Quan."

"What's up, Yan Bao?"

Just as Wen Yan was about to speak, Leng Xunze snatched the phone. "Was Wen Yan with you yesterday?"

The sudden male voice startled Bai Quan, and there was a moment of silence on the other end.

Wen Yan also clutched her hands nervously, not expecting Leng Xunze to suddenly grab her phone.

Although she had mentioned to Bai Quan about helping her cover up, she worried Bai Quan might not react in time.

Unexpectedly, the next second, the girl's clear voice came through, "Yes, she was at my place last night. We hadn't seen each other in a long time, and I didn't want her to leave. You must be her husband, right? What, are you that strict?"

Wen Yan breathed a sigh of relief.

It was an impeccable answer.

Leng Xunze said, "Sorry to trouble you."

He replied politely enough and hung up the phone.

Wen Yan looked at him. "Do you believe me now?"

"It seems you're quite capable," Leng Xunze said indifferently.

"Honey, I was really wrong. I'll come home earlier from now on. Please forgive me this once," Wen Yan said, pulling his hand and acting cute. Her soft, obedient eyes made one's heart melt. Leng Xunze realized his own thoughts and his gaze immediately darkened. Tsk, as expected, women are all the same!

"So, did you spend the night at a hotel?"

"What? Ah, no. Because she has children at home, we spent the night at her place."

"Then the person I saw at Bitan Hotel this morning wasn't you?" Leng Xunze suddenly asked.

Wen Yan was instantly shocked and looked at Leng Xunze in disbelief.

Leng Xunze was at Bitan this morning too?

How could that be?

"Are you curious how someone like me could go to a high-end hotel like Bitan? But if I hadn't gone, wouldn't I have missed such a spectacular scene?" Leng Xunze's lips curled into a dangerous, bloodthirsty arc.

Wen Yan knew she couldn't hide it anymore, her face turning pale. "Honey, let me explain..."

"What explanation do you have? Didn't I tell you to stay away from An Xi? Did you take my words for granted?"
