Mrs. Wen was stunned.
The VIP rooms in this hospital were something even the wealthy had to consider.
The services were primarily for affluent families like the An, Rong, and Wen families!
How could they possibly afford it?
The call ended, and Mrs. Wen's expression was complicated.
Wen Yan stood not far away, slender and beautiful, her indifferent eyes seeming to mock her overestimation of her own capabilities.
Wen Ya didn't know what had happened on the phone.
"Mom, did they agree to transfer Brother Ziyu to the VIP ward?"
Mrs. Wen didn't answer, but looked at Wen Yan, her voice filled with disbelief, "How is this possible? How did you two manage it?"
The Li family couldn't possibly have this kind of influence!
And the two of them certainly couldn't.
"What, does everything in this world have to rely on you to get done?"
"You..."
"We don't need any help from you at all. We hope you'll stop here, there's no need to embarrass yourselves further!" Wen Yan said and left with her mother.
Wen Ya was very angry, "Mom, you shouldn't have helped them. They should have sent Wen Ziyu back to a regular ward."
Mrs. Wen replied, "Wen Ziyu is in a VIP ward."
Wen Ya was shocked.
"How is that possible? A VIP ward costs at least tens of thousands a day! Wen Ziyu is staying long-term, where did they get the money?"
A shadow flickered in Mrs. Wen's eyes.
"Loans, or maybe selling something. Wen Yan is still young, after all."
Wen Ya was stunned, but upon reflection, it seemed like the only explanation.
Wen Yan actually sacrificed herself for her brother. Wen Ya felt a pang of sympathy, but also a sense of disdain.
If it were before, she would have been willing to help Wen Yan, but Wen Yan's behavior today was too infuriating. She might as well let her continue to sell herself; one day she would face reality.
Wen Yan was unaware of their thoughts. She stayed in the ward until evening when she received a call from Bai Quan. The girl was crying hysterically, in extreme distress. Wen Yan's heart clenched, and she rushed to find her.
Unexpectedly, she found herself entering a bar for the second time in a week.
Wen Yan saw Bai Quan drinking at their usual spot.
Several bottles had already been emptied on the table.
Wen Yan was surprised, "You've drunk so much?"
Then she worried, "Bai Quan, what happened?"
Bai Quan looked at her with hazy eyes, "Yan Bao, I've decided to start my own business again."
This news was like a bolt from the blue for Wen Yan.
She had always believed that women should have their own careers, but Bai Quan hadn't thought so.
"Okay, I support you! What do you want to do?"
"You know I studied finance, but I don't want to work for my family. I want to start my own venture capital firm."
Venture capital, in full, is venture investment.
If done well, one could become a rich woman in minutes.
Wen Yan believed in Bai Quan's capabilities. In high school, she had already become a rich woman by playing the stock market with her allowance.
It was only after she got married that she had no time to manage it.
"I support you. If you need money, tell me."
"I do need money, but I can't use yours. I've managed to secure an invitation to a banquet tomorrow, but I haven't attended a banquet in years and I'm a bit nervous. Do you want to come with me?"
Wen Yan immediately agreed.
Bai Quan smiled and hugged her, calling her her best sister.
But as she spoke, she started crying, holding on tighter.
Wen Yan felt a bit suffocated by the embrace but didn't push Bai Quan away. She knew Bai Quan was hurting, but since she wasn't initiating the conversation, Wen Yan wouldn't pry.
The sisters had a tacit understanding.
After a long while, Bai Quan calmed down.
They drank together, but Wen Yan drank less and, relatively sober, took Bai Quan back to her rented apartment and locked the door.
By the time they woke up, it was already broad daylight.
Bai Quan had a headache, and Wen Yan brewed her some honey water.
"Yan Bao, you're too good to me. If you were a man, I'd definitely marry you," Bai Quan said as she drank.
"You better forget it. Get your career going first, and then I'll consider marrying you."
"I didn't know you were such a materialistic person!" Bai Quan feigned indignation. "I see you clearly now."
For some reason, Leng Xunze's words flashed through Wen Yan's mind.
"This is your true face, isn't it?"
"So pure on the outside, yet so licentious deep down."
Instantly, her heart ached, and Wen Yan's face turned pale.
Bai Quan quickly said, "I'm just joking. I like you being so pragmatic the most! Kiss me!"
"I knew it, you dare to look down on me." Wen Yan came back to her senses and pinched her cheek.
After a bit of playful banter, their emotions settled.
"By the way, is this your home?" Bai Quan finally looked around.
"Yes."
Bai Quan looked at the dilapidated house, a flicker of heartache in her eyes. Wen Yan said calmly, "I think it's fine. When two people are together, happiness is the most important thing. Everything else can be earned."
"You're right," Bai Quan agreed wholeheartedly now.
Like her and Rong Beifeng.
They never lacked for food or drink.
Yet, there was no affection between them.
In fact... he had cheated, and she couldn't even say a word.
The beginning of everything stemmed from yesterday when she saw a hotel receipt in his pocket. She had only asked about it, and unexpectedly, he had lost his temper. Bai Quan immediately backed down, ultimately returning to the bedroom in silence without saying a word.
Her heart, however, was breaking.
She had sensed his wrongdoings long ago, but she never expected him to develop to this extent, especially given his usually abstinent nature. It was at that moment she suddenly realized that if he wanted a divorce, she would have nothing left.
"Let's go, let's go shopping and get ourselves sorted out. We'll attend the banquet tonight," Bai Quan said.
Wen Yan saw a renewed spark in her eyes.
She was happy for her change.
They hadn't gone shopping together in a long time.
Bai Quan spotted a dress costing twenty thousand yuan and, after a moment's hesitation, finally bought it.
Wen Yan also bought herself a designer piece, not wanting to embarrass Bai Quan.
They then went for beauty treatments and hairstyling.
At six in the evening, they attended the banquet together.
Numerous luxury cars were parked outside the hotel, but they arrived in a taxi. Bai Quan sighed, "Ah, how times have changed, Yan Bao. When we have money, you can choose any car here."
"Miss, if you went home, wouldn't you have any car in the garage to choose from?"
"From now on, we'll rely on ourselves!" she declared, clenching her fist. Holding Wen Yan's hand, they walked into the second-floor banquet hall of the hotel. The luxurious hall was brightly lit, filled with the clinking of glasses and conversation among various socialites, exuding an atmosphere of opulence and sophistication.
Almost everyone was dressed in suits for the men and elegant dresses for the women.
Like princes and princesses.
Wen Yan felt Bai Quan's palms begin to sweat.
Nervous, no doubt.
Wen Yan herself felt a sense of nervousness.
"Manager Wang, long time no see," Bai Quan greeted a man in a suit who was passing by.
The middle-aged man turned to look at her, a hint of surprise in his eyes, "Bai Quan? What are you doing here?"
"I've been at home for a while and thought it was time to come out. I'm also planning to start a small business of my own."
Manager Wang laughed heartily, "You, aren't you comfortable staying at home? You're married to CEO Rong, and you're still so ambitious. You truly are the one I watched grow up."
Bai Quan smiled along, and Wen Yan breathed a sigh of relief, feeling the atmosphere was manageable.
"Oh, Manager Wang!" a woman's voice suddenly interjected.
Sun Liyan, seemingly appearing out of nowhere, approached Manager Wang and giggled flirtatiously, "I was hoping I might run into you. I didn't expect you to actually be here~"
"Miss Sun."
Manager Wang's gaze shifted between the two women, a hint of knowing amusement in his eyes.
