Even when facing the police, Ji Qi didn't believe he had done anything wrong.
"Miss Wei, I already know I was wrong. I shouldn't have used such forceful means to pressure you. Can you give me another chance? Please, give me one more chance."
Ji Qi desperately pleaded with Wei Yumeng, no longer caring about his own predicament, his heart consumed only by her.
But Wei Yumeng would not give him another chance, for they were fundamentally incompatible.
Furthermore, Ji Qi needed to pay the price for all his actions.
As Ji Qi was led away, Wei Yumeng's heart finally settled. She shifted her attention to Zhan Mohan.
"Mohan, did you only know I was here because of the note?"
Although Wei Yumeng asked, she found it impossible, as she hadn't written her whereabouts on the note.
Hearing her question, Zhan Mohan felt a pang of anger. Wei Yumeng had kept such a significant matter from him.
He remembered how anxious he had been when he sensed something was wrong with her on the phone and rushed back, only to find that farewell note.
Zhan Mohan pulled Wei Yumeng into his embrace once more. "Promise me first, you won't do anything this dangerous without telling me."
"I... I understand," Wei Yumeng agreed after some hesitation.
Thinking back, her actions had indeed been too hasty. She had been solely focused on not burdening Zhan Mohan,
without considering that if he had known, perhaps she would have had other options.
"I am truly sorry," Wei Yumeng finally said. "I have troubled you and the children. This is all my fault; I didn't handle the relationship between the two parties properly, which led to this."
Zhan Mohan simply stroked her hair. "This cannot be entirely blamed on you. I bear some responsibility too; I didn't protect you well enough."
"Don't say that."
Zhan Mohan's words only amplified Wei Yumeng's guilt.
Just then, Zhan Mohan's phone rang. It was Fang Xun.
"Mr. Zhan, something has happened. Young Master... he..."
"What is it?"
"He's been injured. We've already taken him to the Central City Hospital."
Zhan Mohan hung up the phone, explained the situation to Wei Yumeng, and they immediately rushed to the hospital.
Didn't they say he was saved earlier? How could he be injured again so suddenly?
Upon arriving at the hospital, Wei Yumeng urgently asked Fang Xun, "How is Jinzhi?"
"Young Master has lost too much blood and is currently undergoing emergency treatment."
"How could this happen?" Wei Yumeng found it hard to believe. Had the children been hurt after all?
"Mom, Dad, it's all my fault. I let brother get hurt. It's all me..." Zhan Shiqing sobbed uncontrollably.
Wei Yumeng crouched down and hugged her. "How can this be your fault?"
Fang Xun explained, "Actually, both Miss and Young Master were rescued. Unexpectedly, we didn't capture all the kidnappers. Miss accidentally fell into danger, and it was Young Master who sacrificed himself to save her, which led to..."
"Are you all useless? I sent you with so many bodyguards, and you still couldn't save two children?"
Zhan Mohan was furious. He had never imagined things would turn out this way.
"I... I..." Fang Xun's face turned ashen. He knew he had made a mistake, and Zhan Mohan's anger was justified.
However, everything had happened so quickly; there was no time for them to react.
He now could only hope that this incident wouldn't cost him his job.
Although Wei Yumeng was heartbroken, she was not unreasonable. Moreover, she had seen Fang Xun's character and capabilities.
She didn't believe in blaming Fang Xun entirely.
Jiang Siyu, holding Zhan Shiqing, said to Zhan Mohan, "Alright Mohan, I don't think Fang Xun would have wanted this to happen. Instead of dwelling on this, we should focus on dealing with the kidnappers."
Fang Xun immediately replied, "We have apprehended all of them and handed them over to the police. They have confessed to everything."
Hearing this, Zhan Mohan's expression softened slightly. At least Fang Xun had done something right.
Time ticked by, and both Wei Yumeng and Zhan Mohan grew anxious.
Despite Fang Xun's description of the incident, Zhan Jinzhi's injury, though seemingly minor, had hit a vital spot, causing shock.
But if it were truly that simple, he wouldn't have been rushed into surgery.
Just as Zhan Shiqing could no longer bear the suspense, believing Zhan Jinzhi was in mortal danger, the operating room light finally went out.
The doctor emerged from the operating room, his expression considerably more relaxed.
"How is my child?" Wei Yumeng asked urgently.
"Please rest assured, Madam. The child's injuries are not severe. After treatment, he is completely fine."
Wei Yumeng finally breathed a sigh of relief, though Zhan Shiqing continued to cry.
"It's a good thing brother is okay, otherwise... otherwise it would have been all my fault."
At that moment, a little girl walked out from another room. She had injuries of varying degrees as well.
"Sister, thank you for what you did before."
She walked up to Zhan Shiqing. "If it weren't for brother and sister finding me, I might have..."
The girl's face contorted with fear as she spoke, unable to bear remembering what had happened.
Zhan Shiqing blinked at the little girl. Her previous sadness vanished.
She had just been lamenting her mistakes, but this was a far greater one.
Although Zhan Jinzhi was injured because of this incident, they had saved another child. This matter could no longer be judged by simple right or wrong.
Wei Yumeng and Zhan Mohan exchanged glances, feeling some relief. Fortunately, Zhan Jinzhi was out of danger, and they had saved this child.
Next, Zhan Jinzhi was wheeled out of the operating room by the doctor. Though his eyes were closed, his breathing was stable.
Wei Yumeng and the others hurried to follow, entering the ward together.
"The child is out of danger now. However, a comprehensive check-up is required when he first wakes up."
The doctor instructed, "Also, during this period, it's best to provide him with the most peaceful environment for rest, which will aid his recovery."
Wei Yumeng nodded. "I understand."
After the doctor left, Wei Yumeng sat by the bedside and tightly held Zhan Jinzhi's hand. "Jinzhi, I'm sorry. This time, it was Mom who put you in danger."
However, at that moment, Zhan Jinzhi, still asleep, spoke. "It's okay... Mom... it's not your fault."
Wei Yumeng was slightly stunned. She looked up, only to find Zhan Jinzhi still in a deep slumber.
