Chapter 45 - 10TH Host Of The Dragon King System

Chapter 45: 10TH Host Of The Dragon King System

The system replied: [There are]

"What are they?" Aiden asked.

[The Authority Over Creation]

[The Authority Over Time]

[The Authority Over Destiny]

[The Authority Over The Mind]

"Wait, wait. This isn’t a coincidence. We know the story of the seven great dragons and the war a hundred years ago and how Augustus became the first king of Dragonhold. In addition to the four you just mentioned, there’s Destruction, Space, and Replication, so seven authorities. Seven dragons for seven authorities..." Aiden surmized, his hand rubbing through his jaw contemplatively.

[Indeed, you are correct. The seven great dragons were embodiments of these authorities] the system replied.

"How then did Syra or Thyrak come to possess three of seven?" Aiden asked.

[I am unable to give you this answer at your current level]

Aiden sighed. "Where are the other dragons then?"

[An answer to that question is not within my archives]

"That’s new. So there are things you have no answer to."

[The knowledge I have comes from experiences of the previous system holders and the Great Black Dragon Thyrak. The answers I give can only come from these experiences and nothing more]

"I see. Now that you mention it, how many others have walked the path to Dragon King?" Aiden asked, inquiring about his predecessors.

[There have been 9 Other Hosts before you]

[You’re the 10th Host of the Dragon King System]

"Let me guess, any information about my predecessors is probably level limited?" Aiden asked, rightfully guessing so.

[That would be the case] the system replied.

"Heh," Aiden smiled.

Right then, Laela walked into the corner where he had been discussing with the system.

Aiden immediately turned toward her, scratching the back of his head awkwardly while the screens before him disappeared.

"I was sure I heard you speaking..." Laela said in that sweet voice of hers.

"Oh, don’t worry about that. Is there something I can help you with?" Aiden asked in quick succession, in other to divert from a possible awkward topic.

Laela shook her head and said, "No, it’s just—" but she couldn’t finish what she intended to say.

"It’s just..." Aiden repeated after her, hoping she would continue.

But at that moment, she went in for a hug and clutched onto him tightly. "Thank you for saving me," she said in that sweet voice of hers.

Aiden was taken by surprise, with his heart beating really fast. He stood there blank for a second without knowing how to react as Laela held onto him.

Then he wrapped his arms around her as well, and a smile appeared on his face.

"You’re welcome," he said in a kind voice.

They slowly pulled away from each other’s embrace, and Laela turned her head away in shyness, with both sides of her cheeks gone red.

Just before a possible moment of awkwardness set in, Aiden said, "Let’s go, the captain’s back."

"That’s strange, I haven’t heard her," Laela said, tilting her head from the corner to see if she could catch sight of the captain.

Then Katherine’s voice called out to them: "Alright, gather up, my darlings!"

Laela turned to look at Aiden’s smug face. She smiled and went to answer the captain’s call, with Aiden following right behind her.

His enhanced hearing had picked up on the sound of her cape flapping as she descended from the skies.

They had all gathered before the captain, who then said, "I flew around and couldn’t pick out more monsters, so it’s safe to say that this mission’s officially over."

There was a brief pause before she added, "Now everyone gather up the bodies of these creatures. Dungeon beasts are creatures of magic, we don’t want to leave them lying around for anyone to just find."

She was also teaching them at this point, given that as Academy mages they still lacked experience with most other parts of fieldwork.

"Why? It’s not like the monsters can harm anyone again," Kayden said.

"Because creatures of magic can be used as fuel or resource components to make Dark Objects," Aiden replied.

"And how do you know that?" Kayden quickly retorted.

"You should visit the library more, Kayden. You might be surprised how much your intelligence gets improved when you read," Aiden said with a taunting smile and in a voice depicting mockery.

Kayden was about to make a fuss when the captain called out, "That’s enough, you both. But yes, Aiden, you’re right. A dungeon beast’s body may be used to make Dark Objects."

Kayden rolled his eyes at the captain commending his roommate.

Aiden thought back to Garant’s shelf in the lower city and his general line of business. This was why dungeon raiders always took him body parts of the dead monsters they killed.

"Avoid touching their fangs, the venom on them stays for a while and could paralyze you on contact. Now off you go!" the captain said.

With that, they all went about the battleground, dragging the corpses of the dead creatures; the lucky ones that didn’t get instantly erased to dust by either Aiden’s flames or Kayden’s lightning.

Aiden went to the ground where the body of the dungeon lord had been split into several tiny pieces.

He looked at it and sighed, wondering how he was going to go about moving body pieces.

At that moment, some of the body parts got highlighted by the system.

The parts highlighted by the system had that golden glow around them when he looked at them. Additionally, the system put up a screen:

[Fang Pieces of the Kimian Kat Dungeon Lord → Mid-level value]

This was one of Aiden’s inventory skills, [Collector], doing its job of showing him items of worth.

He then picked up some of the pieces of its scattered fangs.

Normally, if it was any other person, the effects of the venom still on the fangs would have started taking effect. But this was Aiden, and part of his passive skills included [Status Reset].

So the effects of the venom or the like were of no significant consequence, as his body would always automatically heal from the effects.

When he was done picking the materials of value, the system instantly made them disappear into his inventory.

....

Soon after, they had gathered the bodies of the monsters together. Laela did most of the gathering, using her tree vines to lift their dead bodies into a particular spot.

"Set it ablaze," Katherine said to Aiden.

He nodded in response and stretched his palm toward it, letting out a torrent of flames to burn their bodies away.

With that, they were done with their work at the town of Tarrin.
