Chapter 20 Chasing the "Star"

After the Mid-Autumn Festival, everyone awaited National Day, much like students anticipating holidays. Each time the calendar was opened, eyes would fall upon the marked days of rest. The weather gradually grew cooler, and the windows were no longer tightly shut, allowing the wind to occasionally blow through, rustling the hair on either side of one's head, a minor annoyance. Wang Muman re-tied her hair, listening to the history teacher lecture. Each word entered her mind, merging with her junior high history knowledge, making it not difficult to understand.

"Manman, the history teacher must have been very handsome when he was young. Look at his demeanor, the way he speaks, he must have captivated a large number of girls," He Lele whispered to Wang Muman. "Pay attention to the lesson, don't think about these things," Wang Muman replied, exasperated. "It's more pleasant to look at him, which helps in focusing on the lesson," He Lele said, nodding occasionally as she watched the history teacher. "I'll go ask him questions later; he'll definitely see me in a new light." He Lele added. "Ask about what?" Wang Muman was puzzled. "What I ask isn't important; what's important is the person," He Lele said happily. With five minutes left until the end of class, she could barely wait.

In the following days, He Lele seemed to be working herself to the bone, finding history questions and frequently asking Wang Muman if she had any, wanting to go ask together. It was almost obsessive. Wang Muman was dragged to the history office several times, and successfully managed to get the history teacher to remember her. "Muman, Lele, you're here again. What questions do you have this time?" The history teacher asked, smiling at them. Wang Muman took out her workbook and pointed to a problem. "Manman, I'll treat you to a grilled sausage later. You're truly my good sister; the daily close contact has been achieved." He Lele was marking a check on her notebook. Wang Muman was starting to feel overwhelmed, "Xiao Le, can we reduce the frequency a bit? I feel too embarrassed to ask every time." "Manman, good Manman, I know you're the best," He Lele blinked and pleaded earnestly. Wang Muman couldn't stand that look and finally compromised.

During the second session of evening study, it was time to collect English homework. "Is there anyone who hasn't handed it in yet?" Wang Muman asked loudly, noticing that two assignments were still missing. "Sister Manman, wait for me for two more minutes." Wang Muman walked over and saw Zhou Mingyu furiously writing, with another workbook spread open on his desk. "Sister Manman, it'll be ready soon, very soon!" His pen continued to move. Wang Muman looked at the time, feeling a bit anxious but unable to say anything. "Wang Muman, you and Li Wei go hand it in first. Zhou Mingyu can hand it in himself after school," Yan Cheng said. His workbook was the one spread open. He looked at the time; it would be too late if they didn't hand it in soon. "Alright then, I won't tell the teacher. He won't finish grading it tonight, and he always leaves early," Wang Muman said, then picked up half of the assignments and left.

"Mingyu, where did you go just now? You've only been back for half an hour," Yan Cheng asked, looking at the still diligent Zhou Mingyu. "A person has urgent needs, you know, like constipation," Zhou Mingyu said loudly without any embarrassment. Those around them looked at him. "You've been gone for so long, is there something wrong?" Yan Cheng asked seriously. "Yan Cheng, what do you mean by that? How could I be sick?" Zhou Mingyu put down his pen. This was a matter of dignity, and he had to respond. He patted Yan Cheng's head, using his height advantage to catch Yan Cheng off guard. Yan Cheng remembered the classic line: "Don't leave after school," and with that, he returned to his seat, preparing to write down his own homework.
