Yan Cheng sat chatting with Shi Kai, and time passed quickly as the students on the basketball court headed towards the cafeteria.
"Manman, what are we eating today?" He Lele asked, holding Wang Muman's hand as they walked with the crowd. She had called out to Wang Muman several times without a response, and now stood in front of her, oblivious.
"I want to eat xiao long bao!" Wang Muman suddenly craved breakfast, missing the xiao long bao she had eaten that morning.
He Lele nodded and chatted with Wang Muman about her conversation with Li Zhentao. Wang Muman listened, bewildered, always wondering how she could chat so happily with people she wasn't very familiar with.
During evening self-study, Wang Muman and He Lele heard many people talking behind them, discussing something. After class, they went to the corridor and leaned on the railing. Zhang Jiayi told them about a recent incident.
"Do you know, last night, the third-year girls' restroom was haunted," Zhang Jiayi said mysteriously.
Shen Jiaxin stated manfully, "Believe in science. Everything is man-made."
"My deskmate told me that last night, a senior from the third year fell asleep after school and was woken by the urge to urinate. She checked the clock and it was already 11:30 PM, so she rushed to the restroom. She used the flashlight on her dorm key to light her way to the toilet. It was fine at first, but just as she finished and was about to leave, she suddenly heard someone crying behind her. The senior was quite brave, she shone her light into each stall and found nothing. She thought she was hearing things and walked towards the exit, but she heard it again. This time, she got a little scared and went straight back to the classroom to pack her things and return to the dorm."
"Later, the senior told her roommates about it, and they spread the word everywhere, making many people want to investigate. Whether it's a rumor or not, more and more people believe the place is haunted," Zhang Jiayi finished, clinging to Shen Jiaxin's arm.
Shen Jiaxin still said, "Don't be afraid, it's all fake. There are no ghosts in this world!" She patted Zhang Jiayi's shoulder.
"Then let's go check it out today. I'm not afraid of ghosts. I watched ghost movies every day as a child. I've seen all sorts of ugly things!" He Lele looked at Zhang Jiayi.
"I'm a little scared. I'm a normal girl," Zhang Jiayi shook her head, indicating she didn't want to go.
He Lele glanced at Shen Jiaxin, then at Wang Muman, "Are you two going?"
Wang Muman said she was fine with either option, still a little curious.
Shen Jiaxin said, "I think it's best not to leave Zhang Jiayi alone in the dorm; she's timid. You two go, and tell me when you get back."
He Lele nodded, and she and Wang Muman returned to the classroom for evening self-study.
After school, the two stayed in the classroom to do homework. He Lele finished and started sleeping, while Wang Muman took out a borrowed book and read. School ended late, and 11 o'clock arrived quickly.
Wang Muman could hear He Lele snoring like a dead pig. At that moment, Wang Muman heard footsteps and looked towards the back door.
"Why are you two still in the classroom?"
Zhou Mingyu and Yan Cheng walked in through the back door, having noticed the lights were still on in the classroom.
"He Lele wanted to see ghosts, so I'm accompanying her," Wang Muman said with a helpless look at He Lele, who was smacking her lips.
"Are you two also here because of that haunted incident?" Wang Muman asked.
Yan Cheng and Zhou Mingyu nodded.
"Did you sneak out of the dorm?" Wang Muman asked, remembering they hadn't been in the classroom.
