Grass grows and orioles fly

Chapter 39 Victory Comes Swiftly

The barricade was 1.5 meters high.

With their current strength, carrying these items was not a problem.

"Sister, Brother Lin Yuan, be careful. I'll cheer for you!" Wu Mengyao waved and made a thumbs-up gesture before running to her post to observe.

"Don't worry, I'll make you a late-night snack tonight!"

With that said, Lin Yuan and Wu Tian went downstairs, carrying the barricade one after another.

Arriving at the staircase landing between the 11th and 10th floors, Lin Yuan took out the walkie-talkie. "Calling Wu Mengyao, calling Wu Mengyao, report the location of zombies on the 10th floor if you can hear me."

Soon, a response came through the Bluetooth earpiece: "Wu Mengyao received. There are no zombie activities on the 10th floor."

None? The two exchanged glances and continued downward with the barricade.

Lin Yuan was still immensely grateful that he had bought a solar power bank, which could power the Bluetooth earpiece. This type of walkie-talkie could also connect via Bluetooth, allowing him to hear conversations even while wearing a helmet.

"There are two zombies on the 9th floor, one on the left and one on the right, near the right stairwell." Hearing this, Lin Yuan and Wu Tian quickly rushed to the stairwell and placed the barricade. They took the left stairwell, and the zombies didn't have time to react.

Hearing the noise, the two zombies on the 9th floor rushed over. Only then did they clearly see what the zombies looked like now.

They were completely different from their initial appearance. Now, their bodies were covered in grayish-white mycelium, and their heads were overgrown with mushrooms. They didn't look soft but rather like woody reishi mushrooms, their facial features no longer visible.

"Are they almost turning into fungus monsters? Their vision should be almost blind," Lin Yuan said and nodded at Wu Tian.

Wu Tian understood and tapped the wall with his small axe.

"Creak, creak, creak, ROAR!"

The zombies, reconfirming the sound source, locked onto Lin Yuan and Wu Tian's direction, roared, and charged forward. However, the barricade placed at the stairwell entrance blocked them. They could only claw at the barricade, shifting left and right, trying to bypass it and reach their prey.

"Heh heh, it worked! Without further ado, let's go!"

Without wasting any more words, the two seized this excellent opportunity.

Watching the zombies with their bobbing heads, Lin Yuan remained confident. He had trained for this.

Finding the approximate area of the zombies' heads, he raised his hands high, and the axe descended with thunderous force, splitting one zombie's head open. The fungi on their heads were no match, clearly far less durable than wood.

Wu Tian, armed with an axe and a wooden spear, also found an opening and swung his axe. Although it didn't kill the zombie directly, it made it pause. Seizing the moment, he thrust the wooden spear, its tip reinforced with iron sheeting, straight through its mouth and out the back of its head.

The two zombies, their bodies twitching from neural impulses, finally fell still. The white mycelium began to turn black, confirming they were well and truly dead.

Victory was theirs. The two high-fived and continued downward, carrying the barricade.
