"Hiss, you're serious!"
A pain shot through his arm as Wang Xiaoxin's teeth sank into Lin Yuan's flesh.
He then felt his blood being sucked, but the sensation disappeared after two seconds.
Wang Xiaoxin had stood up again, wiped her mouth, and looked at Lin Yuan, saying, "You're probably curious why I look so much like Wang Xiaoxin, but I can't tell you now. I need three days to digest what I've obtained, and then I'll tell you everything.
I'll also help you escape as payment for your help.
Consider it an even exchange."
After speaking, Wang Xiaoxin left without regard for Lin Yuan's thoughts. Upon exiting, she entered her mimetic state, making her completely undetectable.
Lin Yuan chased after her but could no longer see Wang Xiaoxin.
"Invisibility?"
He shook his head at the thought. "It must be mimicry. Are you people from the Eternal Life Cult? Old Wang, where exactly are you?"
He had no leads for now and could only wait for three days. He wondered if he would be fed to Fang Yuxin by then.
Although Carol Anna had said organization was enough, Lin Yuan had heard the word "fed" the most in the past month.
Ying Tianlong and the others should be arriving soon. He wondered what methods they had prepared.
His mind was chaotic, but his consciousness was clear. He pressed the emergency button by his bed.
Soon, Lina and Anderson arrived, their faces etched with anxiety.
"Lin Yuan, what's wrong?"
Lin Yuan had taken the gene therapy agent today. Carol Anna had told Lina and the others that besides the therapy agent, she had also given Lin Yuan the anti-M virus control agent. Thus, they believed he had become trustworthy again.
Lin Yuan pointed to the wound on his arm that was already nearly healed and said, "I was attacked. I need Carol Anna to give me a full body check-up."
The gene therapy agent had not reduced his healing ability; it had merely switched his always-on state to one that activated only when injured.
"Attacked? By whom?"
"Possibly someone from the Eternal Life Cult."
"What?!" Upon hearing the words "Eternal Life Cult," Lina and Anderson immediately panicked and quickly took Lin Yuan to Carol Anna's laboratory for a thorough examination.
Meanwhile, in Edgar's office, the door was violently kicked open, and someone stormed in, slamming his hand on the desk and shouting, "Edgar! Why hasn't the council's order been acted upon? Satellite imagery shows the Chinese carrier battle group is approaching! They'll be here in two days at most!"
"Hey, Ed, don't be so agitated. You're going to break my desk," Edgar said, unfazed by Ed's fury. He leisurely took a sip of tea before continuing, "You're the commander of HSAC's defense force, what are you looking for from me, the CEO? Can't you see I'm busy with important council matters?"
Ed laughed in anger, unable to bear Edgar's demeanor any longer. "Don't think I don't know your tricks. Put away your arrogance and conceit!
Your so-called Legion of the Dead is about to face annihilation. This is the council's last chance for you. Since you haven't seized it, you'll go to hell with them!"
As he spoke, the communicator in his hand lit up with a green light.
This, however, only confused Edgar. "How can you break through the signal blockade?"
Information within the HSAC base could only be transmitted to the outside world through a signal blockade at random times each day, with each blockade not exceeding 5 minutes. This was why Ying Tianlong could only vaguely confirm that Lin Yuan was still in the base and his vital signs were normal.
Otherwise, they wouldn't have gone to such lengths to cause trouble for them.
It was currently within the signal blockade period, and there were still over two hours left until the scheduled signal blockade for today.
"You're too confident about everything, Edgar." He clapped his hands, not answering his question.
Upon hearing the signal, soldiers who had been guarding the door outside rushed in. Over a dozen rifles, unlike any on the market, were pointed at him, along with several more uniquely shaped firearms.
"Now, due to your severe violation of the council's established laws, unauthorized formation of armed forces, and intent to betray and obstruct the council's experimental projects, your position as CEO has been revoked. Surrender immediately, or we have the right to shoot you!" Commander Ed's face was filled with absolute confidence.
To his surprise, Edgar remained indifferent, even stretching and glancing contemptuously at the soldiers holding the strange guns.
"Lucifer Type 1? Nice weapon." He then added.
"You know that and you're still so arrogant? They're already fully charged. I'll ask you one thing: surrender or die!" Commander Ed had lost his patience. He drew his pistol, cocked it, and aimed it at Edgar.
"Actually, it's not that troublesome. The council has wanted to get rid of me for two months now. It's a pity I helped them complete their pathetic and foolish immortality experiment. It's truly disgusting."
Edgar's words completely ignited Ed, who was loyal to the council. His eyes turned completely cold, regaining the look of a killing weapon.
Without another word, he pulled the trigger.
The other team members did the same.
"Pity, I was one step ahead of you."
Before they could pull the trigger, Edgar had already reacted.
The bullets pinged and clanged against a thick meat shield, failing to penetrate. Even the so-called "Lucifer Type 1" weapons only managed to leave a large pit, causing him no injury. Perhaps one more shot might have done it.
Edgar was now enveloped in a thick layer of flesh and blood, like a budding flower of hell.
"Hell No. 1 Agent?! Damn you, Edgar, how dare you conduct unauthorized human modifications!!" He quickly retreated and ordered the soldiers wielding the "Lucifer Type 1" to speed up their charging.
"Once charged, aim at... hhh..." The rest of his words were never uttered. He, who had retreated to the doorway, was directly impaled through the chest by a writhing fleshy tentacle.
His protective suit burst open, scattering flesh, lung fragments, and broken ribs everywhere.
With all his remaining strength, he turned his head back with difficulty. "Hell Flower" had bloomed. At the center, Edgar was only recognizable by his head, while the rest of his body was a mass of connected, massive fleshy strands and buds, forming the shape of a body.
The soldiers impaled by the tentacles were dragged over and, within a few dozen seconds, were reduced to a puddle of rotten flesh.
The remaining soldiers could not escape either; this entire area had become a living hell.
After absorbing the flesh and blood nutrients of all the soldiers, Edgar had transformed into a three-meter-tall giant. His muscles were exposed and incredibly strong. His skin had melted away, or rather, these hardened muscles had become his new skin. His hands had grown short claws, making him appear less threatening.
The muscles of his entire face had split open, his handsomeness gone, replaced by ferocity and ugliness.
Propping open the door with his hand, Edgar looked in the direction of the laboratory where Fang Yuxin was held, a terrifying smile creasing his lips.
"Next, I will end this farce. This world needs a new order, not the laws of some old fuddy-duddies. What I say goes!"
