Chapter 213: Chapter 213: Ron
Kael rolled his eyes, but he too thought about his younger sister and wanted to know what she looked like.
Compared to his younger siblings, he was much more mature when his mother conceived his younger sister. He had personally seen the complications arising in his mother’s pregnancy and wondered if his youngest sister would even survive.
His parents’ prayers, desperation, and even sorrow, which they attempted to conceal, never escaped his notice.
"Even if she isn’t single... we will dote on her," Kael muttered under his breath; his expression was solemn as if he was making a vow.
The harsh sunlight leaking through some corners of the house made the temperature rise and the heat unbearable, but the warmth in their hearts made them struggle to survive.
They were concerned for their younger sister, who might be struggling or thriving in her life. They wanted to reunite with her.
Since their childhood, their parents reminded them about their younger sister at every turn. Even in the riches and joy, they never forgot about her.
The curse of life was such, though... just when they finally found some hints, the apocalypse descended.
"What? Hell no! My younger sister shouldn’t be more than 20 years old! How can she not be single? She is still a baby!" Felix shot up from the sofa, his expression radiating murderous intent.
Kael chuckled but didn’t present any argument.
They let Ember do whatever she wants because she was never a woman in their eyes.
Heck! She even once overthrew Felix and beat him to the point that even their mother wondered if he was Felix.
Hence, they expected to gain a charming, cute younger sister. They can pamper her and keep her protected from all the bad wolves!
"Do you think this time we will gain any result?" Felix’s deep voice drew Kael’s attention.
"Hm... maybe. Mom and Dad have already contacted the person who had last photographed a young woman with brown hair. That girl’s DNA matches ours 5%."
"Wow! How did we get the DNA result of that girl anyway? Through the DNA request? But then why did the man have a photo of the girl?" Felix was thrilled, his heart beating with anticipation, and he wondered if he should go out of the base and start to collect the blood of all the women with brown hair.
"That’s the suspicious part. The person claims that he was a nurse and the girl had come to do a complete body check. Since she was a famous blogger, he remembered her. Therefore, when the DNA request submitted by our mother revealed a 5% similarity in DNA, he recalled her." Kael said with a grim expression.
Felix’s excited expression vanished, replaced by a cold look.
Compared to the sunny and cheerful look he showed around, the current cold look seemed to have unlocked a new yet raw version of him.
"Oh? Another imposter? They never learn, huh?"
While they were wealthy and desperately searching for their younger sister, many impostors emerged, attempting to fake the results.
Dealing with those impostors was exhausting and frustrating. If they weren’t posing, the process of finding their younger sister might have been shortened by a lot of time.
"Most likely. Yet mother... sigh." Kael couldn’t bring himself to criticize his mother at all.
The atmosphere turned heavy, and both brothers fell silent.
"How I wish... that we gained some kind of telepathy... and found her..." Felix said with a dreamy expression.
.............................
Ron slowly followed the direction and soon arrived at the entrance of a base called ’Silvy’.
While looking at the soldier patrolling the base and how no zombies were approaching it, his heart settled. He inched toward the entrance.
Just when he thought he wouldn’t be stopped by anybody, a voice called out,
"Hello. Welcome to Silvy base."
Ron flinched, his grip on his sister tightened slightly, causing the little one, bundled up in the rags, to cry out in pain.
In an instant, everyone’s attention turned toward Ron. The young man looked no more than 14, and with a little life in his hand, everyone’s expression softened.
Janet, inside the guardhouse, smiled and gently asked,
"Do you want to become a citizen of this base?"
"Ugh... That... can you tell me, what are the entry fees?" Ron asked; there was a hint of probing in his voice.
"No entry fees. The basic requirement for entering this base is to rent. If you don’t have any crystals on you, you can rent them in groups. Don’t worry, we only allow people with a clean background to enter." Janet gently explained everything.
"Oh..." Ron felt a heavy weight being lifted off his heart, and he sighed in relief. On the way, he had collected quite a few crystals.
He was decent in fighting, and by staying alert all the time, he was able to make it to the base safely.
"How much for one room?" Ron asked cautiously.
"10,000 crystals. If you rent in a group of 10, you only need to pay 1000." Janet’s words made Ron’s heart skip a beat.
1000 crystals? That amount was far too high for him; he didn’t possess that many crystals.
"But since you are underage and you also have a little baby with you, you just need to register with the special department, and they will provide a temporary free shelter for you."
"Free shelter?" Ron’s eyes widened in disbelief.
How can any base provide free shelter? And that too... just because he was underage and had a baby?
Shouldn’t they view him as an unnecessary burden and impose a higher fee?
At least that was what Ron had seen in the previous temporary safe shelter.
There, young women and children like him were treated right at first and even protected. But as the apocalypse continued and the supplies started to dwindle... the treatment became worse and worse to the point that even a baby was considered food.
"Hm. Our base leader says that children are the foundation of the apocalypse, and hence they should be protected."
