Chapter 178 Wild Men in the Mountains

Swoosh… Lu Fan leaped and gave chase.

The two tall figures sprinted through the deep mountains, their speed astonishing. All Lu Fan could hear was the whistling wind. He followed closely behind, maintaining a careful distance, not daring to be discovered.

After cresting a ridge, the two tall figures finally slowed their pace. Lu Fan, using the darkness, crept closer.

Ahead, he saw a cave, and the two figures disappeared inside. There was light within the cave, and by its glow, Lu Fan saw their full appearance.

Savages??? Lu Fan was shocked! In this day and age, there were still savages? It was unbelievable!

He quietly approached the cave entrance and peered inside. Holy cow! The cave was a world unto itself.

The cave was vast and deep. Not far from the entrance, there were over a dozen savages and a bonfire. Each one resembled an ape, covered in hair. Among the dozen, there were men and women, and two naked children, a boy and a girl, not yet ten years old. The savages wore skirts made of leaves around their waists. Their upper bodies were bare.

Splash… The two savages who had just returned placed the items they carried on the ground. It was a pile of pine mushrooms and a dead snake!

Lu Fan’s eyes lit up. Had these two giants gone specifically to the pine forest to find mushrooms? And they had killed a snake. That snake was likely the one he had placed in the pine forest.

However, this didn't seem too strange. His second senior sister had sensed the spiritual energy and gone to find pine mushrooms to eat, which was how he had brought her back. It seemed that not only animals were sensitive to spiritual energy, but savages were too.

“Ah… ah…” Suddenly, a savage child spotted Lu Fan peeking from the cave entrance and immediately pointed and shouted.

Whoosh… Several savages became flustered and all looked towards Lu Fan. A few strong individuals immediately grabbed branches and clubs from nearby, adopting a defensive posture.

“Hey, hey, hey… Don’t be so tense! I’m not a bad guy!” Lu Fan was startled and quickly emerged, waving his hands and shouting.

The savages couldn't understand a word Lu Fan said. It was clear that the two who had gone foraging for mushrooms were the strongest among the dozen, so they took on the responsibility of protecting the entire group. Whoosh… The two charged at Lu Fan, swinging their clubs down at him.

Swoosh, swoosh… Lu Fan dodged the two savages’ attacks with a few leaps. Although the savages possessed brute strength, it was evident they knew no martial arts. Lu Fan found them easy to deal with. However, he didn't want to harm them, so he only dodged and didn't retaliate.

Whoosh… Lu Fan flipped his wrist, and an apple appeared in his hand. He threw it towards the savage attacking him.

The savage froze. They seemed surprised that Lu Fan would offer them food. Moreover, Lu Fan’s face showed no hostility!

He sniffed the apple near his nose, seemingly detecting no danger. He uttered a few words and then threw the apple to the child who had discovered Lu Fan.

The child took the apple and took a bite, his face immediately showing surprise and delight. He excitedly chattered something!

Lu Fan’s forehead broke out in a cold sweat. Judging by his expression, the savage had asked the child to test for poison! Having a child test for poison, that was truly barbaric!

“Don’t worry! I won’t harm you!” Lu Fan said, taking out two more apples. He wiped one on his body, took a bite with a crunch, and then threw the apple to the savage opposite him.

Seeing that Lu Fan had eaten one himself, the savages’ wariness seemed to decrease significantly. They then took a bite of the apple. Their expressions immediately brightened. They handed the apple to someone next to them, and soon everyone had taken a bite.

Lu Fan nodded. While using a child to test for poison was barbaric, sharing the apple was quite fair. It was a shame he didn’t have much with him. These few apples were originally for himself.

Sensing that Lu Fan harbored no ill will and was friendly, several savages relaxed their guard, though they still maintained a distance.

Lu Fan’s gaze drifted into the cave. It was deep and winding, so he couldn’t see the bottom. Lu Fan was curious and wanted to investigate further.

Whoosh… Suddenly, two savages rushed forward, blocking Lu Fan. The strongest one shouted something.

Although Lu Fan couldn’t understand what the savages were saying, he could tell from their expressions that they didn’t want him to enter. He turned to leave. As he looked back at the snake on the ground, a sudden thought struck him.

He approached the snake, whoosh… a dagger appeared in his hand, slash… with a swift movement, he cut a large opening in the snake’s skin and, in a few swift motions, peeled it off. Crunch, crunch, crunch… He chopped the snake into several sections, threaded them onto a branch, and placed them over the bonfire to roast.

The dozen or so savages nearby were dumbfounded, wondering what this fellow was up to, messing with their food.

Before long, the aroma of roasted meat wafted through the air. The dozen savages looked astonished. It seemed they had never smelled anything so fragrant before.

Lu Fan took out some barbecue seasoning from his storage ring. This was what he had prepared for Liu Ruyan and Shen Xinyi to roast python meat, and he had kept it in his ring. If it weren't for roasting the snake meat now, he would have forgotten about it.

Sizzle, sizzle… He sprinkled the seasoning onto the snake meat, and it immediately began to sizzle and release a rich aroma. The two savage children, their mouths watering, forgot their fear and walked over to Lu Fan.

Lu Fan picked up a piece of roasted meat, blew on it to cool it slightly, took a small bite, and nodded. It was still delicious. He gave himself a thumbs-up and then handed the roasted meat to one of the children. He then picked up another piece and handed it to the other child.

The two savage children were quite clever. They mimicked Lu Fan, blowing on the roasted meat, and then took a bite.

Ah… ah… Although they imitated him well, they still burned their mouths a little. However, they seemed unable to resist the tempting aroma of the roasted meat and began to chew heartily.

Lu Fan’s gaze was fixed on the depths of the cave. He had a feeling that something unusual lay within. It seemed he needed to build a good relationship with these savages if he wanted to enter. He decided he would bring more fruits and food tomorrow.

After roasting the snake meat and pine mushrooms, Lu Fan distributed them among the savages. He then left the cave and headed back the way he came. The dozen savages watched Lu Fan disappear before reluctantly returning to the cave, chattering unintelligibly.

The twenty-odd snakes in the pine forest were indeed gone. It seemed the savages had scared them away. Lu Fan didn't mind; raising snakes was just a small idea, and if they had run off, so be it. Without dwelling on it, Lu Fan began to descend the mountain.

As dawn broke, Liu Ruyan and Shen Xinyi were already up practicing their cultivation.

“Lu Fan! You’re out all night again! What good things in the mountains are attracting you so much? Could it be that there’s a savage little sister hidden in the mountains?” Shen Xinyi teased as she saw Lu Fan return, looking somewhat chilled.
