Chapter 173: THE THIRD EPISODE
THE third episode opened with a sweeping drone shot of a large ship moving across the ocean. The camera flew in a wide circle around the vessel, capturing every side. Viewers could see the ship’s smooth white exterior shining in the daylight, the multiple decks with their metal railings, and the tall control tower standing at the center. The drone dipped lower, showing the rows of round cabin windows along the sides before finally hovering near the stern where the ship’s name, The Argo, stood out in bold cursive letters.
The scene then cut to the contestants inspecting their cabin rooms. The camera made sure to highlight the clear difference between the cabins given to the top five ranked contestants and everyone else. Those in the top five had spacious cabins, while the rest had much smaller ones. It’s like the show was telling everyone that no matter what the contestant’s rank was, only the top five positions truly mattered in the grand scheme of things.
The episode then showed clips from their first full day aboard the ship. There were contestants eating in the dining hall, some exploring the ship, and others using their free time to call home. These moments gave viewers a clear look at the contestants’ lives onboard, from the simple but filling meals served in the communal dining area to the cramped practice rooms where contestants spent most of their time. The family calls, though brief, at least confirmed they hadn’t been completely cut off from the outside world.
Next, the broadcast shifted to footage of the ship arriving in Busan. Contestants gathered on the deck, their excited chatter filling the air as the city’s port came into view. The scene then transitioned to the performance hall, where Yoon Jihoon stood waiting to announce their next mission: Vocal Test.
He laid out the rules clearly, how the evaluation would work, and how many points the winning team would earn. After the explanation, the team formation began. As expected, the selection order followed the rankings from the first elimination. Taeyang, as the current top-ranked contestant, had the privilege of picking his teammates first.
Once the 10 teams were finalized, the song choices were revealed. Each group immediately discussed which option best fit their skills, knowing their selection could make or break their evaluation.
Since only one copy of each song was available, the rule to get it was quite clear. The first team to physically claim their preferred track would secure it. The moment the announcement ended, one member from each group took off sprinting through the ship’s corridors. Cameras focused on Taeyang and Seojun leading the pack, their speed decisive as they ran.
The remainder of the episode documented the teams’ preparation for the mission. The initial line distributions, late-night rehearsals in the practice rooms, and the inevitable creative disagreements. Though tensions flared at times, every conflict was resolved peacefully.
Several standout moments stood out in the episode. There was Eunwoo demonstrating strong leadership skills, guiding his team with clear instructions and patience. Then came Seojun, who lifted the spirits of his discouraged teammates when they doubted their chances of winning. Another notable scene showed Mirae looking visibly uneasy after his teammates chose him as main vocal over another member who had openly volunteered for the position. The guilt on his face was hard to miss, even as his teammates reassured him.
But the real highlight was Taeyang playing the keyboard while Haneul sang. The show only shared a short clip of it, not the full song. Taeyang’s fingers moved smoothly over the keys while Haneul’s crystal clear voice matched the notes perfectly. Yet even that brief moment was enough to hook viewers completely.
The episode closed with a preview of the next one, flashing quick cuts of the upcoming live performances. A final note appeared on screen announcing that the next episode would run for two and a half hours.

- All I can say is that ship looks ridiculously expensive. Seriously, just how big is the budget for this show?
└ Right? When they first announced the show would be filmed on a ship, I imagined some basic ferry or something. Not this massive, fancy cruise ship-looking thing.
└ The budget is budgeting.
└ It’s not just the outside that looks impressive either. Even the interior shots they showed look like some high-end cruise ship.
└└ To be fair, they kind of had to make it nice if they’re going to keep all those contestants trapped there for months. Can’t have them living in some cramped, uncomfortable space the whole time.
└└└ Exactly my thoughts. If I had to compete on a ship for that long, I’d at least want a proper bed to sleep in and decent food to eat.
- This clip looks like two Alphas racing to reach their Omega. (*attached clip of Taeyang and Seojun running side by side*)
└ So who’s the Omega they’re running to, then?
└└ Isn’t it obvious? The only acceptable answer is Haneul.
└└└ Wait, why is he the only option?
└└└└ Are you really asking? I mean, realistically speaking, name one other Omega contestant who’d have two dominant Alphas competing over them like this.
└└└└└ Mirae is right there.
└ Seriously, stop. This isn’t a dating show! Stop shipping them!
└└ This is exactly why Alphas and Omegas shouldn’t mix on competition shows.
└└└ What’s the big deal? It’s harmless fun. Nobody actually thinks they’re together.
- All the songs picked for the vocal mission are great. I’m cheering for every team. Good luck to all of them! Fighting!~
- Our Mirae is so kind. Don’t feel guilty, you deserve the main vocal position.
└ Right? That other teammate of his was so agressive for no reason. He didn’t even have the talent to back up his confidence.
└└ Hey, no need to be mean.
└└ I don’t know. I feel like that Mirae is too fake for my liking.
└└└ Get out. We don’t need any Mirae slander here!
- Taeyang’s arrangement of their song sounds amazing already. I’m really looking forward to their performance.
└ Same here! Even that short preview got me hyped.
└ Wait, did he actually arrange it himself?
└└ What, you think the show did it for him?
└└└ Hard to say. The show does seem to be favoring him a lot.
└└└└ You’re really reaching with these theories.
└└ Can we just appreciate Haneul’s vocals instead of making up drama?
- Don’t you think it’s weird that Taeyang’s team only has five members while every other team has six?
└ I thought the same thing! Especially since Taeyang was the first one to pick his teammates.
└ Actually, I noticed something while checking the voting site. There are supposed to be 60 contestants, but the list only shows 59.
└└ Wait, really? Then who got removed? And why wasn’t there any official announcement about it? That’s so shady.
└└└ Maybe the contestant left on good terms with the show? Like a mutual agreement? In that case, they wouldn’t need to make a big announcement.
└└└└ That could be true. The fact that nobody seems to know who’s missing means they must have been edited out completely, probably from the very first episode.
└└ Do you think something happened? Like maybe the contestant did something bad and got quietly kicked out?
└└└ Hey, let’s not start rumors without proof. Even just speculating like this could hurt someone’s reputation. If the show didn’t say anything, we should leave it alone.
