"Old man! If you're begging, get lost and don't bring me bad luck!"
This was followed by a flurry of punches and kicks, and a low wail.
"Let's go take a look."
Liu Manman said to everyone.
As they approached, they saw a group of young people beating a vagrant. The vagrant's clothes were tattered, his hair and beard matted together, making him look extremely disheveled. His age was impossible to determine.
Beside the youths stood a maiden with her arms crossed, her nose and mouth turned up to the sky. Lu Fei found her somewhat familiar, as if he had seen her somewhere before.
He patted a bystander's shoulder and asked, "Brother, what's going on?"
The man turned around, amiable, and explained, "It's like this. That young lady and her friends were about to go in to eat. But as they were about to enter, this vagrant grabbed her skirt."
Lu Fei frowned slightly. Did the vagrant deserve a beating?
Suddenly, the vagrant on the ground shouted.
"Don't go, you must not go to that ruin. People will die if you go."
"Old man, you talk too much!"
"You bring bad luck, I'll go wherever I want, and it's none of your business!"
With that, they resumed their punches and kicks.
The vagrant's nose and mouth were bleeding, and one of his feet was bent at an angle, likely broken. Yet, no one around intervened. Those who did speak a few words were merely trying to pacify the situation, reasoning that the vagrant had provoked them first.
However, if the beating continued like this, the vagrant might very well lose his life.
"Stop!"
The youths who were beating the vagrant turned around, wondering who the impertinent fellow was that dared to interrupt them.
Bai Qianqian turned her head and saw Lu Fei walking out. She couldn't help but frown. It wasn't wise to be a hero in this situation, but upon further thought, she found herself looking at Lu Fei with a newfound respect.
The leading youth glanced at Lu Fei.
"You? I think I've seen you before."
Lu Fei smiled, "We were in the same carriage on the train."
"Oh, oh, oh, I remember now."
The leading youth was the same one who had bragged on the train about not being able to get a first-class ticket but managing to buy several second-class tickets. His name was Wang Zhong. Today, he was teaching the vagrant a lesson for the sake of the maiden standing with her arms crossed.
The self-cultivation of a dog licker.
For this kind of heroic rescue, he certainly couldn't appear arrogant.
Lu Fei put his arm around Wang Zhong's shoulder and smiled, "Brother, we've already shown this girl our affection. If we keep beating him and someone dies, it'll be troublesome. Don't you think so?"
Wang Zhong frowned. He had been caught up in the heat of the moment and hadn't thought things through. Now that he was being stopped, he calmed down and realized that Lu Fei had a point.
"Alright, I'll give you face today."
Wang Zhong spat fiercely at the vagrant on the ground, "Old man, if you ever get your hands dirty again, I'll beat you to death!"
Then, he turned to the maiden with her arms crossed and said with a grin, "Jun Jun, this troublesome old man has been taught a lesson. Don't let him affect our meal."
The maiden nodded.
The group then entered the restaurant.
The crowd also dispersed. They showed no particular reaction to Lu Fei's intervention and followed others into the restaurant.
After everyone left, Lu Fei went to the vagrant's side, intending to help him up, but it seemed the man wouldn't be able to stand.
Lu Fei sighed and took out a wallet from his spatial ring, placing it into the vagrant's clothes.
"Go find a hospital. This money should be enough."
With that, he got up to leave.
Suddenly, the vagrant opened his eyes, blood trickling from his brow, making him look exceptionally pitiful.
He grabbed Lu Fei's arm.
Repeatedly he cried out, "Young man! Don't go to the Tower of the Undead. That tower kills people!"
Lu Fei was startled by his sudden action.
However, their trip was specifically to enter that ruin, and they wouldn't leave easily.
But if he didn't agree now, it seemed the vagrant, who appeared mentally unstable, wouldn't let him leave.
So, he nodded and smiled, "Alright, I understand."
The vagrant then released his grip, a hint of relief on his face.
After lunch, the group headed to the Fenghe Town ruin, the Tower of the Undead.
The Tower of the Undead was located in an open plain, surrounded by towering peaks.
In the center was a large canyon, and passing through it led to the Tower of the Undead.
As the group passed through the canyon and arrived in front of the Tower of the Undead, they discovered that the World Government soldiers in their crimson uniforms were guarding both sides.
Had this ruin already come under government inspection?
In front of these soldiers, a group of beast masters were queuing to enter.
The group also joined the queue.
After waiting for some time, it was their turn.
A soldier looked at them.
"Where are you from?"
Zhou Tao, who was at the front, replied, "We are students from Cang Town Beast Taming Academy."
"Cang Town? And you're students?"
The soldier frowned. "Does the academy know you're here? It's very dangerous inside, and many beast masters have already died. Are you sure you still want to go in?"
Zhou Tao nodded.
"This trip is a training exercise arranged by the academy?"
The soldier's expression turned grim.
"Training? Your academy is too reckless. What would you tell your families if you lost your lives? Kids, you should go home quickly!"
Seeing that the soldier was not allowing them to pass, Zhou Tao had no choice but to reveal his identity.
"Officer, I am a senior beast master, and the lowest among us is a mid-level beast master. We believe we have the ability to protect ourselves."
The soldier was taken aback, finding it hard to believe.
Only when Zhou Tao produced his beast master scroll proving his identity did the other party believe him.
"Well, then, be careful. If everything is alright, come out early. You're still young, don't die in there."
"Also, fighting each other within the ruins is forbidden, and causing harm or death is absolutely not allowed."
